My Continuing Adventures as Mother Goose Feb. 2022

I am an animal lover who owns a horse. A few years ago, I agreed to horse sit for some neighbors. But before the happy couple, who owned the horse went on their trip, they rescued three geese and asked me watch over them too.

Of course, while the couple was off traveling, I quickly fell in love with the geese.

My Days as Mother Goose

So now, let me introduce you to Henrietta and Gladys!

Henrietta (red hen) and Gladys (grey hen)

Well, now they have rescued two chickens, who live in a barn, containing a hen house, which resembles an oversized children’s doll house, where they lay eggs.

During feeding time, I find myself in a constant conversation, “Gladys, aren’t you hungry? Henrietta is eating all of your food! Did you lay an egg today?”.

Anyway, you get the idea.

I quickly realized that Henrietta, with her gold patterned feathers, never takes a bad photo. She is the George Clooney of chickens, especially when roosting, with her yellow feet tucked up underneath her.

I conduct chicken photo shoots by placing their treats in different locations, in order to to snap pictures of the hens with different backgrounds.

At my house, a friend and I planned an egg tasting brunch. We scrambled some store-bought eggs from the carton, and compared them to the fresh eggs that I had taken from the henhouse.

Needless to say, the farm-fresh eggs won hands (or wings) down. The winning eggs were more yellow, with a full-bodied flavor, different than all of the other eggs we had ever previously eaten.

During my last time barn sitting, the happy couple returned to their farm newly engaged. Unanswered future questions now include:

Who will carry their wedding rings down the aisle?

Can chickens even carry rings?

Stay tuned…
