Lockdown Changes/March 21, 2020

How It Was

The world does not seem real because our lives have so dramatically changed.

I used to go to the gym on Saturdays to work out and discuss the 80’s music that they played. Afterwards I would complete a list of errands: deli, post office, bank, chiropractor, etc. Now I wonder if some of these businesses will be able to survive after the pandemic or if I will even able to afford to go to them if they ever reopen.

On Saturday nights, I sometimes would get together with friends, maybe we would catch up at the diner where I would often finish my meal with a black and white cookie (a Long Island classic).

Recently, we were at a local diner and the manager kept thanking us for coming because many of the customers had stayed home that night. I said to my friends that it may be the last time we are out all together for a while.  Unfortunately, I was right, and our world has slowed down and since that night, I have hardly left my house.

Today I will be just thankful to just to go outside, wave to my neighbors (from a 6’ distance), and see the flowers blooming. And inside I will be thankful for the food I have and the internet and telephone to talk to family and friends.

As long as we stay safe, what we cannot do anymore does not really matter, although we still have the right to miss it. Whenever the pandemic has passed (date to be determined), I will celebrate the occasion with my family and friends and order another black and white cookie at the diner.

What do you miss?

I’m missing a Howard Jones concert at the Paramount, Sing Street (a new play) on Broadway and Sister Act at a theater in Northport.

Whoever expected playgrounds to be closed down?

What are you reading or watching at home?

My bookshelf (and Kindle) is overflowing with books and possibilities.

Perhaps some kids at home could start journaling today.

What are your suggestions of pages to follow on Facebook?

Reach out to your friends, especially those not on social media. I have started e-mailing these posts to these friends too.

Love to all and God Bless those who are caring for the sick, delivering packages and mail, the emergency responders, and all those who are still getting things done. ❤️
