Last weekend, I stopped at a nearby farm stand (Meyer’s in Woodbury, NY) to photograph a field of sunflowers, lots of pumpkins and some antique tractors.
Cars were filling up the parking spaces, as mobs of people posed with the tall sunflowers to either take selfies or family photos. New arrivals exclaimed, “Isn’t this amazing?” as they walked past me heading toward the field.
These sunflowers evoke pure happiness, so no one noticed the traffic from the nearby busy road any longer. Instead, our eyes were focusing on the rows of smiling flower faces, dancing around us in the warm breeze.
We were Long Islanders gathered together to simultaneously hold on to the last days of summer, buy farm fresh produce and try to ease our Covid-related back to school anxiety. This feeling of relaxation from this quick, simple, unplanned stop made me happy all day.
Q. Can you tell me about a moment of joy?
